Guardian Life Sales Representative Alfred Patrick knew that it was almost an impossible task. Yet he and his marathon colleague, John Lum Young, went for it any way. They managed to compete and complete two marathons, in two consecutive days, in two countries. According to Alfred Patrick, an avid marathon runner, “two is definitely his lucky number from now on!” They successfully competed in two IAAF certified races; the Reggae Marathon in Jamaica and the Marathon of the Palm Beaches in Florida on Saturday 2nd December and Sunday 3rd December 2006 respectively and wore Guardian Life colours for both events. This is a feat never accomplished by anyone else in Trinidad and Tobago given the time span between both marathons.

A committed agent and sports enthusiast, Alfred Patrick fulfilled the requirements of the Reggae Marathon that spanned 26.2 miles in Negril, Jamaica.  Upon completion, he journeyed to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to compete the next day in the Palm Beach Marathon that also covered a 26.2 mile route.  Both events drew thousands of participants from the international sporting arena.  This feat was acknowledged along the Palm Beach route with banners carried by well wishers where they were congratulated and spurred on to the finish line.

The driving distance from Negril to Montego Bay, Jamaica where Alfred and John had to catch the flight to Florida is one and a half hours. Through the efforts of his Guardian Life Limited colleagues in Jamaica and Air Jamaica personnel, who reduced the check in time to half an hour, they were able to make it happen.  Guardian Life’s management and staff expressed their pride in Alfred’s achievement by sending him to a spa for a foot massage!   His participation was very much in keeping with the company’s commitment to develop well-rounded individuals who can perform both at the workplace and within the community.
