Each receives $250,000 for High School Education
Guardian Life Ltd today awarded its 2008 A-Graders GSAT scholarships to Mario Barnes and Judiene Hyatt, at a luncheon which was held in their honour at the Guardian Life Centre, 12 Trafalgar Road.
Both students emerged winners from a pool of 127 applicants and will receive $50,000 per year for the first five years of high school, once their grades are maintained at a high standard.
Mario attended Naggo Head Primary and Judiene is an immediate past student of Ascott Primary School. Both schools are located in St. Catherine and both students will attend Campion College in September.
Earl Moore, President of Guardian Life, praised the children for their "diligence in performing so well in this tough exam."

This is the 3rd year Guardian Life has awarded scholarships to top GSAT performers.

Guest Speaker, Minister of Education, Andrew Holness used the occasion to outline the strategy for improving education which includes building more school, improving the leadership and teaching quality at upgraded schools, and encouraging greater involvement and participation of parents at all levels.
In delivering the vote of thanks both students thanked their parents, principals and teachers for their support during the exams. Both stated their intention to maintaining excellent academic standards during high school. They had both earned the highest marks in GSAT for their schools.
This is the third year that Guardian Life is offering the GSAT scholarships which was this year renamed the Guardian Life A-Graders GSAT scholarships.
In addition to awarding the GSAT scholarships, the top performing boy and girl, from the Denham Town Primary School also received grants of $25,000 each. Top boy, Joel Williams will attend Jamaica College while Althea McGregor will attend the Queens School.
