Elaine Davis, captain of the ‘Sunshine Girls’, Jamaica’s senior netball team, will benefit from a total of $300,000 cash injection by Guardian Life Limited, under the Jamaica Netball Association’s (JNA) ‘Adopt-A-Player programme.
The funds will be used to cover the cost of airfare and visa, accommodation, meals, gears, clothing and incidents for Miss Davis who will lead the national squad to the World Netball Championship (WNC2007) to be held in New Zealand from November 5 to 19.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility, Guardian Life is committed to assisting critical areas of nation-building and we are aware of the constraints that the national netball team sometimes faces despite its number 3 ranking in the world,” stated President of Guardian Life, Earl Moore.Marva Bernard, President of the JNA, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Association: “We are extremely delighted and very grateful that Guardian Life could find it possible to support Elaine and by extension the Jamaica Netball Association.
We are very aware of the financial challenges facing many companies today and so when one can find it possible to help us in such a substantial way it gives hope that we will realize one of our goals, that of being able to afford the cost of attending the World Championships in November.”
The ‘Adopt-A-Player’ programme is one of several initiatives that the JNA has embarked on to raise funds for the team’s participation in the Championship.
